Machining centre for valve bodies

Remodelling of an existing machining centre with update of hardware (retooling from Siemens SIMATIC S5 to Siemens SIMATIC S7). A S7-400 with 2 mobile panels 170 and one OP270 was used which communicate with the control over profibus-DP.

Exchange of the whole control panel (6 panels, 80cm each) on demand of only 2 weeks downtime. The control was completely new programmed and extensive error handling was implemented.

The 30 machining stations are chosen depending on recipe (type). Each station can switch between manual and automatical mode anytime without affection of the workflow. All gestures can be comfortably chosen and performed with the mobile panels on the touchscreen. Entire machinining cycles can be activated with the mobile panels as well.

The circulation system for 32 workpiece holders operates independently of individual statation's mode of operation but can be controlled with mobile panels in every way.

The workpiece is tested if it was machined well at each station. If not, it is marked by the control in a database and is guided through all following stations without further machining.

At the end it is transported by an not-in-order conveyor where the occured failure is indicated.
All correctly machined work pieces are transported by an OK-conveyor.

The equipment itself was not remodelled.
